CKSCians are Marketing Geniuses

CKS College bagged the first prize in the “Marketing Genius: Interscholastic Marketing Competition” held at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) last November 15, 2014. CKS College was represented by Heather Co (2nd Year, BSBA – Marketing Management student, Honors’ Circle Batch 1 Scholar), Jamaica Costales (2nd Year, BSBA – Marketing Management student, Honors’ Circle Batch 1 Scholar), Nielsen Tiangco (3rd Year, BSBA – Marketing Management student), and Ana Charlene Lim (4th Year BSBA – Marketing Management student). It was a proud moment as CKSCians proved once again that they have what it takes to compete against the best marketing students in the country and emerge victorious.

Organized by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines Junior Marketing Executives, the competition consisted of two phases. Phase 1 was a quiz bee, covering three rounds: easy, average, and difficult. In the easy round, which involved matching logos to brands, CKS College ranked third among the 18 participating colleges and universities. The team sustained its ranking in the second and third rounds, which involved identification and multiple choice questions covering topics such as marketing fundamentals, product and brand management, and integrated marketing communications.

The top five schools in Phase 1 qualified for Phase 2 of the competition, which involved a case study. The teams were required to present a new brand positioning and marketing plan on Dole. After one hour of preparation, each team presented and was questioned by the four panelists. Come CKS College’s turn, all the panelists and judges were impressed with the presentation of the team, commending them for the organization and consistency of their proposed marketing plan.

After six hours of competition, CKS College was named champion and the real marketing genius. Polytechnic University of the Philippines Manila and De La Salle – Antipolo came in second and third. Ana Charlene Lim was awarded Best Female Presenter.

CKS College Goes to M. Hizon

After holding a successful event last September 22 and 23, the Business Expo 2014 Committee decided to give back and conduct a small outreach program. A part of the proceeds from the previously held Business Expo was used to acquire toiletries which were later on packed by the organizers into 60 health kits.

Last Friday, November 7, the Business Expo 2014 organizers went to Gen. Maximino Hizon Elementary School, located at Jose Abad Santos, Tondo, Manila, to carry out the said outreach program for the benefit of some of their Special Education (SPED) students. The organizers were accommodated by Ms. Josie Quizon and Mr. Marcelo Mislang, the school principal. The health kits and gym bags (sponsored by Wrangler) were distributed one by one to the SPED students, including those with hearing impairment, intellectual deficiency, and autism. From the smiles on their faces, it was evident that the students were delighted and were also very appreciative of what they received.

The outreach was truly a fulfilling and heartwarming experience for the Business Expo 2014 organizers.

CKS College is 2nd Runner-up in the 6th EOS Cup

Last October 11, 2014, the 6th Executive Officers’ Cup (EOS Cup) commenced at De La Salle University - Manila. The competition was organized by the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants-National Capital Region and R.G. Manabat & Co., in partnership with De La Salle University Manila-JPIA. Different schools from the National Capital Region participated.

CKS College was represented by Lynnette Chung (4th year, BSA student), Kimberly Rose Chu (3rd year, BSA student), and Hazelyn Xu (4th year, BSA student. The said competition was comprised of 2 rounds, the elimination and the final rounds. There were about 27 schools in the elimination round and only the top 10 schools moved on to the final round. The elimination round had 30 questions distributed equally as easy, average, and difficult. CKS College garnered 570 points in the elimination round, which gave them the 5th place in the elimination round and enabled them to move on to the final round.

In the final round, 24 questions were asked. The score for each question was dependent on the “bet” placed by each group on that question. Each bet corresponded to additional points if answered correctly and deductions were made, if not. The questions covered various board exam topics (Auditing Theory, Auditing Problems, Theory of Accounts, Practial Accounting 1, Practical Accounting 2, Management Advisory Services, and Business, Law, and Taxation), General Information, NFJPIA-NCR knowledge, and “jologs” questions which made the competition fun and unpredictable.  After almost 2 hours, the winners were announced and CKS College was named 2nd runner-up. University of the East – Caloocan was 1st runner-up, and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila was declared Champion. Trophies, medals, and accounting books were awarded to the winners.
