Expanding Your Career Opportunities: Seminar on Institute of Management Accountant (IMA) Philippines, Certified Management Accounting (CMA) Program, and


The first seminar of CKSC-JPIA entitled Expanding Your Career Opportunities: Seminar on Certified Management Accounting (CMA) Program, Institute of Management Accountant (IMA) Philippines and Competency Crisis took place at the CKS College Main Campus, Ching Ban Lee Memorial Hall on August 22, 2015 at 1:00 in the afternoon.

Opening the event was JPIA President, Samantha Joyce Corpin. Tami Lee Ann Tan and Mikee Marielle Chua, the masters of the ceremony, introduced the speakers.

Mr. Leo Yatco, CMA, MBA, CPA with Masters in Business Administration and also an instructor of Insights Financial Review Services, Inc., gave a briefing of what their program is all about, what benefits the students can get in joining the program and a briefing on what the next speakers will be talking about.

Mr. Edison Chu, CMA, CIA, CPA, shared his journey on how and what he has experienced along the way before reaching his current position in his workplace. He shared the things that happen in the workplace, the kinds of people one will encounter and the job one may assigned to do.

The last speaker, Mr. Angel Secerio Jr., CGMA, CFE, CMA, US CPA, is the current president of the Institute of Management Accountant, Philippines. Like the previous speakers, he also talked about his journey, how he was able to become a CPA, how he aspired to achieve more titles along the way, and some of the difficulties he encountered in his life. He encouraged the students to aspire and work hard to achieve their dreams to become a CPA and more in the later part of their lives. Before ending his speech, he offered the students who aspire to become Certified Management Accountant (CMA) 10 free slots of CMA review worth P 65,000.

The event concluded with the giving of certificate and token of appreciation to the speakers by JPIA President, Samantha Joyce Corpin, and JPIA Vice President-Internal, Iris Altura, and the closing remarks by Bryann Raymart Inn, JPIA treasurer.

“Creating Positive Change through Advertising” Seminar


The Junior Marketing Association conducted its first seminar for this school year, entitled “Creating Positive Change through Advertising” last August 14, 2015(Friday) at the Audio-Visual Room CKS College Narra Campus. The event was hosted by SEC VP Internal Mr. Aron Sy, followed by an invocation led by JMA VP External Ms. Trisha Que.

The guest speaker for the event was Mr. Virgilio “Gil” Velez, a renowned professor of Advertising from Universityof Santo Tomas, a columnist for the Manila Times, a contributor for the Philippine Business Magazine, and a strategic planning consultant at Dominguez Marketing Communications, Inc.

Mr. Gil Velez shared to business students the importance of advertising to today’s fast-changing society wherein people are more online than ever. According to Mr. Velez, a marketing person should develop a creative mind and he may do so by being exposed to various ideas. He exhibited print and TV ads that have been popular worldwide, then stressed that an advertisement to be effective, a brand should have a purpose, principles, and participation in order to capture the attention and emotions of the consumers.

 Having acquired new ideas and deeper understanding of advertising thru the guest speaker, the attendees became inspired   to learn more and to venture on advertising in the future.

CKS College Rotaractors General Assembly


Hosted by Ms. Kim Dominique Tan and Mr. Aaron Sy, the CKS Rotaract Club General Assembly was held at the College Building on July 23 2015 at 2:30 p.m. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. John Alexiz Tan, the District Rotaract Representative, who gave an overview of the Rotaract and an inspirational message to motivate the Rotaract members; Mrs. Susan de Jesus, the World Class President; and Mr. Bernie Sansagan, the past President.

Ms. Jasmine Wong, together with the guests, started the Official Signing of Charter Papers. Afterwards, Ms. Jasmine Wong and Ms. Iris Altura, Rotaract Club Community Service Assistant Director, presented the club officers and its planned activities; followed by the presentation of the certificate and the token of appreciation for the visiting guests.

The event was enlivened by the prepared games and refreshments.

Pursuing Success with Mr. Chinkee Tan


In collaboration with the Rotaract Club of CKS College, the Student Executive Council held its first youth empowerment seminar entitled,” Pursuing Success”, at the CKS College Main Campus Ching Ban Lee Memorial Hall last August 25, 2015 at 1 p.m.

                Welcomed through an audio-visual presentation, Mr. Chinkee Tan motivated the students to achieve and maintain success via three points: first, to know one’s purpose, thus giving him direction in life; second, to maximize one’s purpose in order to bring out his passion; and third to give away one’s purpose to bring meaning to his existence. Moreover, Mr. Tan stressed that one must be ready to fail and must make the learnings gained from his failure lead him to success.

                Entertaining, inspiring, and educative, the seminar is just one of the many seminars the Council has set for the students to have more holistic college education. 

Two CKS College Education Scholars Attend K-12 Curriculum Assessment Seminar


Last August 15, Gian Patrik Renejane and Johanna Pauline Lamzon, both Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Teaching Chinese Language,attended a seminar on “The K-12 Assessment Framework (1-Day Pre-service Training)” which was held at The Pearl Hotel in Ermita.

Dr. Carlo Magno, President of the Philippine Educational Measurement and Evaluation Association, was the resource speaker. To determine the participants’ prior knowledge on assessment, he started the said seminar by administering a diagnostic test in the form of a short essay. A question-and-answer type of discussion concerning assessment and evaluation, and correcting some common misconceptions thereof ensued.

 

Relevant topics, such as the Seven Principles of Assessment, Learning Competencies, Lev Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development, and Types of Assessment were also tackled. In the afternoon, a workshop was conducted in which all schools were asked to formulate ten exam questions that should be aligned with the given learning competencies, and to present it onstage to be critiqued and assessed by Dr. Magno. The seminar ended with volunteer students’ sharing their insights about the morning’s discussion, and the distribution of certificates of participation.
