Legacy of NSTP’s Batch 2022-2023

The National Service Training Program for the first year students of CKSC Higher Division had a series of fruitful activities under the guidance of Mr. Ian Mark F. Arevalo. These efforts, which were carried out in both online and face-to-face setups, attempted to instill active engagement and commitment among the students as "nation builders."

For NSTP 1, the students organized two webinars. The first seminar was facilitated by a registered Psychologist, Ms. Linda Cangayao. She talked about tips and ways to become resilient both physically and mentally. On the other hand, a Constitution 101 was conducted, entitled “Tayo’y Tao, Magpakatao! Tackling Awareness of Our Own Liberty”. Facilitated by guest speaker Ms. Genesis Abrigo, the webinar delved into topics such as human rights, their characteristics, and the importance of raising awareness. Additionally, to celebrate the festive season, a Christmas outreach program was conducted by each group to spread the joy and warmth of the holidays.

Transitioning to NSTP 2, a variety of activities and opportunities were provided by Mr. Arevalo to let the students foster a spirit of volunteerism and active participation to contribute to the community’s well-being. Each group gathered information about their respective barangays, through "Barangay Profiling." Furthermore, they were able to unleash their creativity in the tri-fold presentation of the said information. In honor of Women’s Month, different groups showcased their talents in discussing historical women and their significant contributions. After gathering the necessary information by conducting the "Needs Assessment Interview" in their respective barangays, the students brainstormed ideas for outreach programs. The culmination of NSTP 2 was the implementation of the outreach programs in each groups’ barangays wherein they held programs such as seminars regarding proper budgeting and waste management, clean-up drives, and donations. All of the programs were based on the needs that were identified during the assessments.

The whole NSTP journey had helped the students develop their talents while contributing to the betterment of the society. The students were instilled with a sense of social responsibility and passion for volunteerism. It was truly a memorable experience for the first year students of batch 2022-2023.

A.Y. 2022-2023 RESEARCH CULMINATING ACTIVITY

The faculty members, administrative officers, and students of CKS College showcased their group projects and scientific papers via virtual and face-to-face means for the school year 2022-2023 Research Colloquium Conference.

This yearly event culminates research activities, as welcomed in opening remarks by Dr. Judelio Yap (President, CKS College) and facilitated by Dr. Ivy Lim (Head of the Research Office), Dr. Rolance Chua (Dean, School of Graduate Studies), and Mr. Ankiat Byron Co (Chair, Dean’s Council), who focused on the knowledge and experience gained throughout the master’s program by our presenters from the administrative office as well as our faculty members from the Senior High School Department. The culminating projects of our students from the School of Graduate Studies and Higher Education Division are centered on the application of theory, research, and real-world business practices and methodologies.

Faculty research advisers instructed our students in ethical conduct and assisted them in accordance with guidelines required by the college institution. The event was an opportunity for all our presenters, who demonstrated depth and breadth of knowledge in their major field of study. With that, it continuously enhances their critical thinking about analyzing results, valuing team building, developing leadership skills, and improving their methodology from the tools and approaches other researchers have used. This activity can truly help in establishing and sustaining a research culture at CKS College.

Not Just S/HE but WE for Gender Sensitivity

The CKS College Higher Education Division National Service Training Program 2 (NSTP 2) students organized a webinar about gender sensitivity awareness. Under the leadership of Joshua Erik Tan, and the guidance of Prof. Ian Mark Fernandez Arevalo, “Not Just S/HE but WE for Gender Sensitivity” - A Gender Sensitivity Awareness Webinar was successfully conducted last April 18, with guest speaker/s, Ms. Mary Pauline Nicole Mercado and Mr. Joshua Cedric Gundayao.
As famously said by English actress Emma Watson: “Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong. It is time we all perceive gender on a spectrum, not as two opposing sets of ideas.”
The webinar highlighted the lessons on how we should understand and see the current issues surrounding gender sensitivity. The guest speakers opened the possibility of gender identity being a spectrum and not a binary identification, and that in this new day of age, such division in gender identification and the roles stereotypically specified to them should be eliminated and regarded as things of the past.
Additionally, we are taught that each person that identifies from whichever part of the spectrum must be treated with respect as that of a normal human being with their own space of privacy. As the world starts moving forward, we must understand the sensitivity when it comes to an individual’s gender and limitations. Perhaps the most memorable lesson that students impart is on how it is okay for every individual to feel sensitive and have limitations, value themselves, and know how to speak out if they feel violated in any certain way. But at the same time, learn the importance of knowing the art of consent and when to stop before violating someone else, for each and every one of us have our own little bubble of privacy, no matter the size, no one has the right to pop it.
