CKSC-FBAS Students Help Out at Gawad Kalinga

NSTP – section B students from Chiang Kai Shek College-Faculty of Business, Arts and Sciences, along with their professor, Mrs. Maryjane Villasenor-Anacito, conducted a livelihood seminar for stay-at-home mothers of the Gawad Kalinga (GK) in Tondo last March 1, 2014 as an effort to educate them about businesses they can venture into without leaving their houses.

Perfume making, bracelet making, jelly milk making and siomai making were demonstrated by the 4 groups of NSTP students.  The mothers were allowed to raise concerns in a Q&A portion after each seminar.  They were also taught how to cost their ingredients and choose the best selling price to maximize their income.  A song intermission number was also presented during the short break for entertainment and a bingo game was played towards the end to ensure that the mood of the event remained light and fun.

Samples were given to the mothers as a guide and reminder to the mothers that getting into these businesses are easy as long as they have the initiative to do it.  The program closed with an inspiring speech given by the Head of Gawad Kalinga in Tondo,  thanking the generosity of the school for conducting livelihood seminars yearly to help the mothers of GK Tondo.  At the end of the day, not only the mothers, but also the students were overwhelmed and felt blessed to be given such an opportunity to help others.

Precious Moments

The school year is coming to an end. It’s been a great year for the Junior Management Society. Good memories, such as: general assemblies, seminars, Christmas parties, etc. will always remain in our hearts and minds. Such memories are created in just a short span of time. It’s been a blast. It’s been a pleasure working with everyone in the Junior Management Society. We are truly thankful for all the support that you’ve given us. Now is the time to say goodbye to the old set of officers and say hello to the new set of officers.

The last general assembly of the Junior Management Society for the year 2013-2014 was held on the 18th of February. The general assembly was just a simple get together of the whole organization where pizzas were served, the new set of officers was voted, and achievements of the organization were presented. Looking back at those activities, it’s been really a great year for everyone. These experiences helped everyone learn and experience something new, a reason why every officer of the organization worked really hard for the sake of his members. Being an officer is no joke. It entails hard work and commitment to keep the organization running. Being an officer helps one become a better person because it helps him get ready for the outside world. Being an officer is not only hard but also fun because trying something new is always fun. New challenges will be faced by our new set of officers. But we are sure that they will be able to handle them well.

It is set! Your new set of officers will be serving you this coming June. You’ll get to know them soon. On behalf of the officers of 2013-2014, I welcome the officers of the year 2014-2015 of the Junior Management Society. I wish the new set of officers best of luck. I hope that you will give them support like the support that you’ve given us because together, WE CAN MANAGE!

Madworld 2014 : Selfie: How to Create Meaningful Personal Brands

Last February 2, 2014, the Philippine Junior Marketing Association, in cooperation with the Havas Media Ortega, organized the annual Madworld event entitled “Selfie: How to Create Meaningful Personal Brands”. CKSC students from different courses became a part of approximately 5000 students from various colleges and universities who were engulfed with insights, shared by prominent speakers across the country. The seminar, which was hosted by Ms. Bea Fabregas, a well known DJ and TV host, talked on how to create and improve our personal brand which will be a key to our success in the future.  The seminar was graced by four speakers, namely: Mr. Pao Pena of Globe Telecom, Mr. Nomer Lasala of GMA7, Dra. Vicki Belo, and Mr. Tony Sarmiento of Havas Media Ortega.

The seminar started with Mr. Pao Pena who talked about the evolution and importance of social media in creating our own brand especially when we are applying for a job. He always keeps in mind that everything that he will do on his social media account will affect him as a person because his social media account reflects his own personality. He also taught us the keys of having great branding, that it should be timeless, purpose-driven, dynamic, and responsible. We should be responsible for every datum, photo, or message that we will post because it can last for a long time.

The 2nd speaker, Mr Nomer Lasala, better known as “The Mindmaster” of GMA 7, shared his insights and thoughts on how to make ourselves a brand that is larger than life. He shared his 3B’s when it comes to making the person he is today. The first B is Boldness that we should do something that will not only bring value to life but also something that is extraordinary which will easily standout. Second is Bungle that we should not be afraid of taking the risk of trying especially if we really want something to happen. And the last is Believe. Confidence within us will translate into good things in life.

The 3rd speaker was the one whom everybody is familiar with, Dra. Vicki Belo. She shared her learnings about the CEO as a brand. With that, she shared her story on how she started her career. She also shared the 7-point star qualities of a good CEO which will make an impact in making your own branding. The 7 points that she shared were: Being brave and bold, Planning ahead, Excellence, Perfection being the eye of beauty, being exciting and fun, not forgetting to give back, and also letting results speak for themselves.

The last speaker, Mr. Tony Sarmiento, had the same insights like what Mr. Pao Pena shared to us. He talked about “Personal Branding” as a whole and also gave some tips on how to create or improve our own brand.

During the seminar break, there were some games and twists, which made the seminar livelier like knock-knock jokes and the showing of the school pride. Foods and prizes were also distributed to winners of the games.
