NSTP – section B students from Chiang Kai Shek College-Faculty of Business, Arts and Sciences, along with their professor, Mrs. Maryjane Villasenor-Anacito, conducted a livelihood seminar for stay-at-home mothers of the Gawad Kalinga (GK) in Tondo last March 1, 2014 as an effort to educate them about businesses they can venture into without leaving their houses.
Perfume making, bracelet making, jelly milk making and siomai making were demonstrated by the 4 groups of NSTP students. The mothers were allowed to raise concerns in a Q&A portion after each seminar. They were also taught how to cost their ingredients and choose the best selling price to maximize their income. A song intermission number was also presented during the short break for entertainment and a bingo game was played towards the end to ensure that the mood of the event remained light and fun.
Samples were given to the mothers as a guide and reminder to the mothers that getting into these businesses are easy as long as they have the initiative to do it. The program closed with an inspiring speech given by the Head of Gawad Kalinga in Tondo, thanking the generosity of the school for conducting livelihood seminars yearly to help the mothers of GK Tondo. At the end of the day, not only the mothers, but also the students were overwhelmed and felt blessed to be given such an opportunity to help others.
