Madworld 2014 : Selfie: How to Create Meaningful Personal Brands

Last February 2, 2014, the Philippine Junior Marketing Association, in cooperation with the Havas Media Ortega, organized the annual Madworld event entitled “Selfie: How to Create Meaningful Personal Brands”. CKSC students from different courses became a part of approximately 5000 students from various colleges and universities who were engulfed with insights, shared by prominent speakers across the country. The seminar, which was hosted by Ms. Bea Fabregas, a well known DJ and TV host, talked on how to create and improve our personal brand which will be a key to our success in the future.  The seminar was graced by four speakers, namely: Mr. Pao Pena of Globe Telecom, Mr. Nomer Lasala of GMA7, Dra. Vicki Belo, and Mr. Tony Sarmiento of Havas Media Ortega.

The seminar started with Mr. Pao Pena who talked about the evolution and importance of social media in creating our own brand especially when we are applying for a job. He always keeps in mind that everything that he will do on his social media account will affect him as a person because his social media account reflects his own personality. He also taught us the keys of having great branding, that it should be timeless, purpose-driven, dynamic, and responsible. We should be responsible for every datum, photo, or message that we will post because it can last for a long time.

The 2nd speaker, Mr Nomer Lasala, better known as “The Mindmaster” of GMA 7, shared his insights and thoughts on how to make ourselves a brand that is larger than life. He shared his 3B’s when it comes to making the person he is today. The first B is Boldness that we should do something that will not only bring value to life but also something that is extraordinary which will easily standout. Second is Bungle that we should not be afraid of taking the risk of trying especially if we really want something to happen. And the last is Believe. Confidence within us will translate into good things in life.

The 3rd speaker was the one whom everybody is familiar with, Dra. Vicki Belo. She shared her learnings about the CEO as a brand. With that, she shared her story on how she started her career. She also shared the 7-point star qualities of a good CEO which will make an impact in making your own branding. The 7 points that she shared were: Being brave and bold, Planning ahead, Excellence, Perfection being the eye of beauty, being exciting and fun, not forgetting to give back, and also letting results speak for themselves.

The last speaker, Mr. Tony Sarmiento, had the same insights like what Mr. Pao Pena shared to us. He talked about “Personal Branding” as a whole and also gave some tips on how to create or improve our own brand.

During the seminar break, there were some games and twists, which made the seminar livelier like knock-knock jokes and the showing of the school pride. Foods and prizes were also distributed to winners of the games.

Endorsed by the Commission of Higher Education, CAMP is an annual conference organized by AME. The theme for this year’s conference was “Shine Brighter Marketers: What’s Next? The Infinite Trends in Marketing.” It’s key objectives include upgrading the quality of Marketing education in the Philippines and equippming Marketing educators and students with the necessary skills and knowledge that will enable them to contribute substantially to national development. ABS-CBN Studio Tour

Last January 27, 2014, the Junior Marketing Association organized a studio tour to ABS-CBN, participated in by forty-nine business students of CKS College. The tour lasted for almost two hours.

The tour started with an audio-visual presentation, introducing the company’s history and showcasing the works they have achieved throughout the years. From time to time during the run of our tour, our tour guides would tell us trivia, such as ABS-CBN has two kinds of locations: the on-site location and the studio location. On-site location is being shot outside the premises of the network while studio location is being shot in a studio inside the network. The studio location has two kinds: a temporary studio and a permanent studio. The difference between a temporary studio and a permanent studio is that a temporary studio is dismantled after it has been used by shows like ASAP, LUV U and others, while a permanent studio is not dismantled like the ones used by shows like Umagang Kay Ganda and TV Patrol. We first went to the studio of ASAP, a musical noontime show every Sunday, wherein we found out that it is the largest studio ABS-CBN has. It is a combination of three ordinary studios. We also went to other studios like the studios of Minute to Win It, TV Patrol, and LUV U. We also passed by the radio stations they have inside the network like DZMM, where we saw the actual goings on when they are live. We also visited the area where the costumes and the props are kept after being used. They have such wide array of costumes, used for intermission numbers in ASAP.

What amazed us during the tour was almost all studios are just small, and are far different from what we see in televisions. The guide told us that it is because of the camera they use. They normally use wide angled lens that makes the people and place they shoot 10 times larger than the normal size. Aside from the studios, we also saw quite few ABS-CBN stars like Kiray Celis, Miles Ocampo, Alexa Ilacad, Sharlene San Pedro, Amy Perez, and Teddy Corpuz, and others.
