CKS College is Top Placer at the Umami Culinary Challenge


The BSHRM students of CKS College were declared regional Champions in the "My Umami Creation" competition, which is part of the recently concluded 2017 Ajinomoto Umami Culinary Challenge. CKS College competed against 42 other teams from various colleges and universities in Luzon.

The culinary competition was held last January 27, 2017 at the Philippine Trade Training Center, Pasay City. Sponsored by Ajinomoto Philippines, the 2017 AJINOMOTO Umami Culinary Challenge is an inter-school culinary competition which showcases the creativity, innovativeness, culinary skills, and nutrition alertness of students.

The winning students are Macgyver C. Tan, Guian Carlo S. Ching Poo, and Harris Edric C. So. The victorious menu was a vegetarian soup dish created from their own imagination. They were coached by Chef Sherril Lyn Y. Chua.

CKS College Job Fair 2017


The goal of Chiang Kai Shek College is to produce quality graduates in the fields of Business, Accountancy, HRM, Information Technology, and Education. Equipped with competencies, skills, and values, they are trained to make a positive impact in the industry and society.

In line with CKS College’s commitment to help provide internship and employment opportunities to her students and graduates, the Marketing and Extension Office together with the Guidance Office organized its annual 2-day career expo last February 2 – 3, 2017, from 9AM to 2PM, at the 7th flr. of CKS College Narra Campus. 75 companies were able to participate.

This event allowed the CKS College graduating batch of school year 2016-2017 to explore and be oriented about various job opportunities related to their respective fields. The Job Fair also provided a venue for graduating students, recent graduates, and reputable companies and institutions to meet and discuss mutually beneficial employment options.

Celebrating Chinese New Year at the Filipino-Chinese Home for the Aged Women


In cooperation with the CKS College Faculty Club, the Student Executive Council conducted its 2nd outreach program at the Filipino-Chinese Home for the Aged Women as a follow-up to their previous visit last December, 2016. This is one way of celebrating the Chinese New Year. The project was supported by various students through donations and was coordinated by the Student Executive Council’s programs coordinator, Hannah Grace Yu.  

Upon arriving, the volunteers and professors were welcomed by the home’s current Principal Sponsor and President, Mrs. Betty Limpe Ngo. The afternoon was spent with Mrs. Limpe Ngo sharing her stories of Japan’s invasion and the inauguration of the home by her mother, Mrs. Limpe. Afterwards, a short karaoke session and sharing between the residents and volunteers took place.

This opportunity had become an eye-opener to the students in appreciating and respecting loved ones, teachers and the elderly.

 

DIVERGE: Embrace your Destiny Accountancy 2nd Academic Conference


Last Saturday, January 21, 2017, 11 members of the Chiang Kai Shek College - Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants' joined DIVERGE: Embrace your Destiny Accountancy 2nd Academic Conference (afternoon session) organized by the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants.  This event took place at the Medicine Auditorium of Martin de Porres Building, University of Santo Tomas. The event organizers invited various speakers, hosted interactive games and showed their talents to entertain the participants.

              The program started with a spoken word by the former president of NFJPIA, Jerwin Dave Patacsil, accompanied with a song and guitar by NFJPIA's president Julius Llanera and a violin performance by the regional vice president for communications – west, Juniel Go. The spoken word touched the hearts of the members and made them relate to one another. The song also captured audience and it made the members ready for the seminar.

              The first speaker was Mr. Richardson E. Novor. He talked about his journey as an accountant in the private sector. He also included stories of his life as a student, how he jumbled his academics with his extra-curricular activities and made choices for his future career. It was an inspiring story indeed. His stories made the crowd realize that they can also have a bright future in a private sector.

              The next speaker was Ms. Geraldine H. Apostol. This speaker talked about her life when she was just starting at an auditing firm and how she handled situations wherein some clients are testing her ability and competence as an auditor. It was evident in the venue that she made the members inspired of her story because when the open forum started everyone was eager to ask her questions.

              The last speaker was Mr. Pocholo C. Domondon. He also talked about his career in the public sector. He showed some of the brilliant clients he have handled and how these people have similarity of being a leader. He wanted the members to be a leader and become an inspiration to others by achieving greatness. Mr. Domondon also talked about how he became a partner of PWC Isla Lipana E. Co.

              The program ended with NFJPIA officers presenting the speakers once again to give them a token of appreciation.  Juniel Go, the regional vice president for communications – west, also gave some closing remarks, thanked the members for their participation and gave some announcements for some future NFJPIA activities.  In addition, they hosted a raffle where they chose a winner to win two tickets to ocean adventure and five winners of accounting books and a gift certificate. Indeed, it was a successful event. The crowd did not only learn a lot for their future but they had a good time with their co-members as well.

Drug Abuse Prevention and Control


The CKSC Health Services Department, in coordination with Dr. Raymond Q. Datuon, head of the Senior High School Program, and Mr. Allan Rey Villaverde, associate dean of Student Life Office (Narra Campus), conducted a lecture and discussion on "Drug Abuse Prevention and Control" last January 20, 2017 at the main auditorium. 

 
The speaker is Dr. Maria Stephanie Fay Samadan-Cagayan, MD, FPOGS, FPSECP, FPSSTD, professor 7, vice chair, and concurrent assistant chair for academics, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and president of the Philippine Society of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology. Dr. Cagayan discussed about the risk factors and causes of substance abuse as with tobacco (cigarettes), alcohol, caffeine, and drugs, Illicit drugs use focusing on shabu, marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, etc., its physical and mental effects, psychological and emotional effects, were explained and discussed during the lecture. 
 
 
A total of 600 students from Grades 11 and 12 attended this seminar. Our senior high school students were very attentive and interested with this topic that so many of them were raising questions. They admitted to have gained more knowledge on substance and drug abuse, its prevention, and control.
