The Art of Writing in Campus Journalism


Last February 13, 2018, the Society of Motivators, Achievers, and Responsible Teachers (S.M.A.R.T) held a seminar on Campus Journalism. The speaker was Dr. Aida S. Villanueva, head of the publication department of Centro Escolar University and a faculty member of Chiang Kai Shek College School of Graduate Studies. Just recently, Dr. Villanueva also made a generous donation of books to the CKS College library.

Dr. Villanueva set the pace of the lecture-seminar by reading the poems “The Taming of the Soul” and “My Thoughts and You”. She then proceeded to discuss the qualities of good writing, as well as the importance of editing. According to her, the art of editing is just as important as learning the art of writing. She also discussed the core principles of journalism.

 

Lecture Seminar on Gender Sensitivity


Last February 6, 2018, the Society of Motivators, Achievers, and Responsible Teacher (SMART) conducted a lecture-seminar on Gender Sensitivity, with Honorable Corazon Alma de Leon, the former Chairperson of the Civil Service Commission, as well as the Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), as speaker.

The purpose of the seminar was to
promote gender equality through social partnerships with local government units and academic institutions and to practice innovative measures in promoting gender equality through lifelong learning. Honorable de Leon discussed various gender issues, gender inequality that is prevalent in many countries, and the role of gender in changing the way we perceive ourselves and our role in society.

Honorable de Leon talked about topics involving Gender issues regarding inequality in general and particularly in education that have always remained evident through the course of the history not only here in the Philippines, but also in other countries as well. She discussed about how gender roles plays a major role in our community, and how gender diversities impact a great change in how we perceive ourselves and our role in the society. She also gave stories about her life and the experiences of the people she knows who were faced with challenges about their gender identity.

Josiah Go on Principles & Practices in Marketing


 
Mr. Josiah Go, marketing mentor and guru, visited Chiang Kai Shek College on February 24, 2018 to conduct a one-day lecture on "Principles and Practices in Marketing in the Philippine Setting." Held at the AVR, CKS College (Narra Campus), this seminar was organized by Rex Bookstore, the Association of Chinese-Filipino Schools of the Philippines, and Chiang Kai Shek College.
 
Teachers from senior high school ABM strand and college marketing instructors from different schools attended the seminar, which covered six topics: Marketing Principles and Strategies, Customer Relationship, Market Opportunity Analysis: Consumer Analysis, Buyer Behavior, Market Segmentation, Developing the Marketing Mix: Value Proposition (Product & Price), Place, Promotional Mix, Managing the Marketing Effort and Marketing Plan.
 
A CKS College alumnus, Mr. Go is the Chairman of Mansmith and Fielders, Inc. and is the bestselling author behind various marketing books such as Principles and Practices in Marketing in the Philippine Setting, The Rainmakers, and Marketing Plan: Building the Profitable Preferred Brand. Last April 17, 2017, Mr. Go featured his Q&A with CKS College President, Dr. Dory Poa, and her efforts to reform Chinese education and make CKSians truly multilingual in his article in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, entitled Chinese Education Redefined.
 
 
 
 

Job Expo 2018


The CKS College Job Expo is organized annually by the CKS College Marketing & Extension Office as part of the school’s commitment to help provide internship and employment opportunities to its students and graduates. The Job Expo helps students explore and be oriented about various job opportunities related to their respective fields. It also provides a venue for graduating students, recent graduates, and companies and institutions to meet and discuss mutually beneficial employment options.

This year's Job Expo was held last February 8 and 9 at the CKS College (Narra Campus). Around 50 companies participated with the intention of actively recruiting from the ranks of capable and competent CKSians.

 

ACBA Cup 2018


The Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants launched the first ever Accounting for Business & Accountancy Cup (ACBA Cup) on January 26, 2018. The quiz bee covered several topics in basic accounting and merchandising and was open to College freshmen and Senior High School students from the ABM strand.

After three rounds of ten questions each, the team of Catherine Joyce Wong and Kerth Aaron Lui emerged as Champion and the first winners of the ACBA Cup. Jayvee Austin Y. Catungal and Trisha T. Huang are second placers, and the third placers are Joanne Mae Cua and Danielle Koengchiat.

The ACBA Cup served not only to help affirm the knowledge of students in Accounting, but also fostered camaraderie, healthy competition, and teamwork.
