Hospitality Management Students Triumphant in Filipino Food Festival Festival 2019

Last April 5, 2019 our Hospitality Management students competed in the Filipino Food Festival 2019 Challenges organized by the LPU-Les Jeunes Chef held at Lyceum of the Philippines University-Culinary Institute, Intramuros Manila.

The Filipino Food Festival 2019 is the first national competition organized by LPU-Les Jeunes Chef, a student organization of the LPU-Culinary Institute. The said competition was divided into two major categories: Savory category and Pastry Category. Our students competed in the savory category, namely the Filipino Creative Breakfast Challenge, Local Pork Challenge, and Dry Pasta Challenge.

Mr. Harris Edric So competed in the Filipino Creative Breakfast Challenge, Ms. Hannah Gail Chua competed in the Local Pork Challenge, and Ms. Patricia Ong competed in the Dry Pasta Challenge.

Harris created his Pirurutong Arroz Caldo, adobo-pickled Egg, 5-spiced fried shrimp tofu, roasted sampaloc-glazed chicken wings with homemade chili sauce and calamansi air for his Filipino Creative Breakfast. Hannah created her dried mango roulade with bayabas sauce, cheese pimiento-stuffed okra, mashed ube and camote, grilled native corn and blue-pea foam for her Local Pork Dish and lastly, Patricia created her malunggay-pesto rellenong pusit with black croutons and kesong puti for her Dry Pasta Dish.

In the end, Harris won with Gold Medal while Hannah and Patricia won with Bronze Medals.

CKS College Student Colloquium 2019

The 1st student research colloquium with the theme, "Valuing Innovative Ideas in Optimizing Awareness in Research Development" was held last March 2, 2019 at the 2nd floor Conference Room. This event highlight the presentation of research proposals by select students from the School of Information Technology Education and the School of Education. The goal of this activity is to continuously encourage and establish a culture of research in the College.

The 2^nd Student Research Colloquium was held last April 04, 2019, at the CKS College AVR Room, Narra Campus. The research conference with the theme, "Creating Innovative Ideas Towards Excellence in Marketing Research: Gen Z's Perspective" was participated by the Marketing Students: Nichole Sia, Marxist So, and Kimberly Nua. The conference brought awareness and enrichment on the updated issues and information that serve as an input in enhancing innovative marketing methods.

CKS College Business Expo 2019 at the Lucky Chinatown Atrium

The CKS College and Fil-Chi Media Productions, Inc. (Chinoy TV), in partnership with Lucky Chinatown and Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, organized the CKS College Business Expo 2019 at the Lucky Chinatown Atrium, Binondo, Manila. The event was held last March 2 & 3, 2019 from mall hours 10:00AM to 10:00PM. Exhibitors showcased and presented products they personally designed and produced are comprised of CKS College students from the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration courses and CKS College Senior High School students from ABM and STEM strands.

The Business Expo carries the theme “Sustainopreneurship” which means a business model with a cause which aims to find and create innovations to solve sustainability-related problems and also to create social and environmental awareness. The students got the chance to have an actual selling experience and everyone got ready with their good sales pitch.

This event aims to espouse an entrepreneurial mindset among CKSian students.

HRM CKSian Prevails in Jolly University Year 5

Ms. Patricia Ong, a 2^nd Year Hotel and Restaurant Management Student, won 2^nd Runner Up during the Jolly University Year 5 Competition.The Jolly University is an open competition for all aspiring and talented young cooks which aims to test the kitchen skills, creativity, and innovation. This year’s theme was “Innovate, Create, Share”. The competition conducted an elimination round where all young cooks sent their recipes to Jolly and was judged according to their creativity and the theme.

Luckily, Patricia made it to the Top 20 where she faced off in another round of elimination round last March 15, 2019 at the St. Scholastica’s College, Manila where the Top 20 battled out to make it to the Top 10. During the Top 20 elimination round, the young chefs where tasked to create a dish with a theme “Modern Filipino” where they had to reinterpret a classic Filipino dish to a modern one and had to use at least one (1) 400g can of Jolly Mushroom. Patricia’s dish was “Pork Hamonado served with Steamed Coconut Milk Bunete”. Eventually she made it to the Top 10. She was coached by our very own HRM Faculty, Chef Sherrill Chua.

The grand cook off was the final round participated by the top 10 was themed "fusion". In this category, the dish should be a combination of two distinct cuisines using any jolly product. CKSC’s very own Patricia created a Thai cuisine consists of mushroom longanissa, suman with crispy shallot garlic latik and coconut creamed foam served with fried egg and green mango salad. The competition was joined by several universities and colleges around Metro Manila, South Luzon and Central Luzon such as University of Santo Tomas, EARIST, Metropolitan Medical Center College of Arts, Science, and Technology, San Sebastian College-Recoletos, Far Eastern University, Manila Tytana Colleges, St. Joseph College Quezon City, Emilio Aguinaldo College, Lyceum of the Philippines University-Manila, CEU Makati, NCBA Fairview, San Juan de Dios Educational Foundation Inc. College, and St. Scholastica’s College, Manila.

Faculty Research Colloquium 2019

The 2019 Student and Faculty Research Colloquium was held last March 02, 2019, at the CKS College Conference Room, Narra Campus. The research conference with the theme, "Valuing Innovative Ideas in Optimizing Awareness in Research Development" was participated by the following faculty members: Dr. Imelda C. Nery (Dean, School of Education), Dr. Frederick A. Halcon ( Special Guest Lecturer, School of Graduate Studies, Ms. Armi R. Mogro (Faculty Member, Senior High School, and College Departments), Mr. Ron Louie G. Palacio (Faculty Member, IB-MYP Department) and Mr. Michael Lawrence C. Ulep (Faculty-in-Charge of the HRM Program).
