ASEAN 2015 : The Future Ahead of Us

The “Towards ASEAN 2015” seminar was conducted by the Junior Management Society on the 19th of September 2013 at the CKSC-AVR.  The speaker for this seminar was Mr. Edilberto Viray. He is a graduate of and a current professor in San Beda College. 80 students and special guests attended the said seminar.

He has received several awards and recognitions. He was awarded the 2013 Outstanding Business Educator in the Field of Economics by The Philippine Council of Deans and Educators in Business. He has also published books such as the Principles of Economics with Taxation and Agrarian Reform and Principles of Management.

Mr. Viray explained that the ASEAN was formed in the year 1967, and currently, members include Brunei Darussaiam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. ASEAN is where all the ten countries come together to build a better life for everyone. Together as ten, we are stronger than one country alone.

ASEAN promotes 3 P’s: peace, prosperity, and people. The ten countries must work together to keep the region safe. ASEAN countries don’t fight one another, they help one another. If we can have peace, we can have prosperity. We can have a stronger economic development. We can also attract more investors and businesses will grow and there will be more jobs and opportunities for our countrymen. Someday, people can work in any ASEAN country of their choice. Agriculture will become more advanced. Our quality of life will also improve. The ASEAN will help one another to prosper. But the most important part is the people. ASEAN governments work hard to ensure that people can enjoy a better life. You are never too young to be a part of the ASEAN Community. Be proud as an ASEAN citizen and look forward to what the future holds.

Even though the seminar was very short, much was learned from Mr. Viray about the ASEAN. The interest of many students was piqued as they felt excited about the future. So what do you think is in store for us? We can only wait and see.

Look Your Best : SUIT UP!

As CKS College seniors prepare to graduate from school in March and start a brand new chapter in their lives, it is important for them to know how a person should dress properly in the corporate world. In light of this, the Senior Organization invited Ms. Julia Robillos to deliver a talk on how CKSCians can look their best in the workplace. The seminar was held at the AVR, CKSC Narra campus on September 18, 2013.

The AVR was filled with senior students, as they learned how the proper corporate attire can help them create a good first impression during job interviews. Ms. Robilos also picked from among the audience the students who donned on the best corporate attire. The winners were Mr. Christian Wilhelm Uy and Ms. Wanna Liu, both 4th year BSBA-Management students.

Culinary Arts Class Function

First year CKS College HRM students held a special function last September 18 at the HRM Center. Under the mentorship of Chef Sherril Chua, the students created a three-course meal, catering to their guests, comprised of CKSC administrators, faculty, staff, and students.

Tourguiding and a Taste of Nature

Last September 14-15, the CKS College TOUR001 (Principles of Tourism 1 and Tour Guiding) class, under the guidance of their instructor, Mrs. Jacqueline Rabe-Monson, went to Buri Resort and Spa in Puerto Galera. 18 students took a four-hour trip via private boat to the resort and got immersed in the actual practice of tourguiding.

Upon reaching Buri Resort, the group was welcomed by aperitifs to quench their thirst and friendly and courteous staff. Even when the students had to climb around 200 steps just to reach their rooms, this trip provided them with the chance to relax, unwind, and enjoy the beauty of nature. The fresh breeze made one just want to stay in the resort for as long as possible.

After leaving their bags and changing, the students headed for Tukuran Falls—the hidden paradise of Puerto Galera. The carabao ride took them through six rivers, made the more fun by the slight, yet refreshing, drizzle of rain. After Tukuran Falls, the students headed for the Tamaraw Falls. Some had their pictures taken, while others stayed inside the jeepney and ate freshly picked lanzones and rambutan. The guided tour allowed the students to observe and experience an actual local tour.

That evening, the students attended a seminar on Food and Beverage Service and Bartending. They were able to visit the resort’s kitchen and observe food preparation, as practiced in actual hotel/ resort settings.

Early the next morning, students were treated to a sumptuous breakfast before their seminar on housekeeping. They toured the whole resort and observed the proper way of doing beddings and putting linens in guests’ rooms. Some were able to experience and enjoy kayaking prior to departing for Manila.

As brief as the trip was, it was both educational and relaxing. Students communed with nature and developed a deeper appreciation for their course.
