Mistakes Make Us Who We Are

We often fear failure and rejection. But being afraid of these two realities will do no good in our lives. Fear makes our world grow a lot smaller. Recognizing this fact, the Junior Management Society organized and held a seminar is entitled “ How to Overcome the Fear of Failure and Rejection” last August 27, 2013 at the 7th floor, CKS College building.

The speaker, Ms. Rubi Vasco, is a graduate of De La Salle University with a degree in Secondary Education major in History and Bachelor of Arts major in Behavioral Science with especialization in Social Planning and Development. She is currently a professor under the Social Science Department in La Salle Greenhills.

In her talk, Ms. Rubi Vasco emphasized that facing and embracing mistakes take courage. One must not sulk in the face of such daunting circumstances. Instead, failures should be seen as learning opportunities and as challenges to do better next time. When we do commit mistakes, we must not be too hard on ourselves. Mistakes do not define us as persons—the way we respond to them does. Ms. Vasco also said that we must quit trying too hard. Do not overthink, over-analyze, and over-function. We must learn to simplify things and free our minds of our fears and inhibitions. She also reminded the audience to not be ashamed of or too shy to seek help when needed. Doing so doesn’t make one a lesser person. But one must learn to choose the right person to help.

And as we  seek to cope with life’s challenges, we should seek to focus on the positive, to find ways to step back and relax and simply enjoy life. Even when failure and rejection hurt us, they also teach us many things. Mistakes also serve as proof that we are trying. Sometimes, it is these mistakes that helps us become better and stronger individuals. Failure is temporary—and even the best people experience this.

In this well-attended seminar, the CKSC Junior Management Society, CKS College youngest and newest student organization, continues to make waves. Much can be expected in the coming weeks and semesters as JMS continue to prove that as CKSCians, they “can manage” and continue to offer activities and projects that are relevant to the needs of FBAS management students.

Enriching the Filipino Vocabulary through Chinese Words

The Chinese language has contributed greatly to our mother tongue, we cannot deny that. Dating back even before the Spanish colonized the country, Chinese traders have not only given us merchandises from China, they also shared some of their native words to us which we use even today, though some of them are not as obvious as others.

This was the focus of the seminar entitled “Hindi lang Siopao at Ampao: Angpao, Siaolongpao at iba pang Panukalang Salitang-Tsino para sa Pagpapayaman sa Bokabularyong Filipino”, held at the 4th floor AVR of Chiang Kai Shek College – Faculty of Business, Arts, and Sciences Building on August 23, 2013.
