Practicum1 for BSIT/BSCS is a three (3) unit course equivalent to 162 hours, while Practicum 2 of BSIT is a six (6) unit course equivalent to 324 hours.
Students must have completed and passed at least 90 academic units and at least 18 units of professional subjects prior to enrolment of Practicum. Just like in job applications, students look for a company where they are supposed to undertake on-the-job training. Students are advised to look for jobs / internships which are related to their courses. The company and the job where the Practicum is to be taken has to be approved by the OJT Coordinator and the Academic Dean.
Students having difficulty finding a company where to take up their Practicum may approach the OJT Coordinator who will assist them in finding such.
An orientation shall be given by the Practicum Coordinator where he discusses general guidelines for Practicum with enrolled students for Practicum.
Upon finding a prospective company to work in, the student shall prepare two (2) copies of the letter of recommendation, which must be signed by the OJT Coordinator, countersigned by the Academic Dean, and submitted, to the company where practicum is being applied for. The duplicate copy shall be kept on file by the student as an appendix to his report to be submitted at the end of the practicum period.
Once hired, the student should request for a formal letter of acceptance from the company, also to be submitted as part of his report.
If necessary, a contract or memorandum of agreement shall be signed between the student, the company, and the school for the practicum experience.
While the student is having his practicum, it is the responsibility of the OJT Coordinator to communicate with the company’s representative/immediate supervisor of the student to ensure work expectations and learning skills are met.
While at work, the student shall start researching and compiling information required for his practicum report.
The student should keep a daily time record while having his practicum. The company time record is acceptable, or in its absence, the Daily Time Record Form provided by the school may be used.
The student shall request for a Letter of Completion from the company upon finishing 162 or 324 required numbers of hours in practicum. He shall also request his immediate supervisor to fill up the Performance Appraisal Form, and have it returned in a sealed envelope. Both documents will be submitted as part of the appendices to the student’s final Practicum Report.
The practicu report must be submitted to the OJT Coordinator as one of the final requirements for completion of their practicum.
A student who fails to complete his required hours in a company will not receive a grade for practicum. A student who wishes to change working institutions will receive no credit from the previous institution in terms of hours and will start his practicum from scratch.
Final Practicum Grades are computed as follows:
