Blast from the Past : A Teachers' Day Celebration

From countless seminars organized by the school and various organizations for the students, along came the day that we celebrate and recognize the people whom we fondly call our second parents, the people whom we gain knowledge from & the people who we shall remember for the rest of our lives; who taught, applauded, corrected, challenged, and influenced our thoughts, words and deeds inside the school---our teachers.

Together with the Department of Student Affairs, and various organizations, the Student Executive Council created a simple and yet timeless event for CKS College teachers. On the 26th day of September 2013, the annual teachers’ day celebration was held. This year’s theme was entitled “Walking Down Memory Lane: A Blast from the Past” which was inspired by the 70s and the 80s. The event was hosted by Student Executive Council’s very own, Ms. Kimberly Lagunday and Mr. Dominik Riano.

At exactly 9:00AM the event was started with an invocation led by Ms. Lynnette Chung, the S.E.C. auditor, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and CKSC Hymn. The event formally started with the opening remarks delivered by Ms. Michelle Lau, S.E.C. president, followed by a wonderful rendition of the song “Roar” by none other than the talented Ms. Leriza Sy, a BS Education student.

This celebration would not be complete without the games prepared to help teachers reminisce about their gleeful years during the 70s and 80s-- giving the students a glimpse of what life was way back then with different song numbers coupled with nostalgic dance moves. There were 4 games: charades, CKSCIAN henyo, guess the title, and bring me. Teams of 4 students and 2 faculty members were formed. There were a total of 5 groups: orange, red, green, violet and yellow teams. The players danced their way to win points. In the first game, Charades, each member must pick a paper from a box and dance based on the title of the dance indicated on the paper, for his teammates to guess. This game definitely gave the teachers as well as the students a fun-filled dancing fever with some of the professors giving all what they’ve got to get their 80s vibes pumping.

After the 2nd game, everyone paused for a while to watch an AVP presentation prepared by different student organizations to thank the teachers for their unwavering support, sacrifices and endless passion to teach their students. Afterwards, the event continued on with the 2 remaining games, followed by an exhilarating dance performance by the CKS College Dance Republic, led by Mr. Harvey Garcia, S.E.C. program coordinator.

After the dance number, the orange team was declared the winner with their team comprising of: Mr. Ankiat Byron Co, Mr. Jeccer Cusi, Allyssa Hao, Howard Chi, Andrew Chiu, and Aaron Sy. They were awarded by Dr. Dory Poa, president of Chiang Kai Shek College.

Students and faculty members were also recognized and awarded by Mr. Melchor Te for being the best dressed in the event. Dr. Neo Danao won Best Male Outfit for Teachers and Ms. Janet Tallod won Best Famale Outfit for Teachers. Ms. Regine Lao won best dressed among students.

Afterwards, a token of appreciation from students was awarded by Mrs. Carmelita Espino to Dr. Neo Danao for his 20 years of passionate teaching. Also recognized were Ms. Chang Chi and Ms. Connie Tan for serving CKS College for 25 and 30 years, respectively.

The Student Executive Council further showed their appreciation to the professors by handing each a rose, which symbolizes their sincerest thankfulness and gratitude for their passion to teach the students. After the closing remarks of CKSC Registrar, Mr. Melchor Te, Student Executive Council officers surprised everyone with a special dance number.

After lunch, students, teachers, and maintenance personnel played in the traditional dice game, organized annually by the Student Executive Council.
