Chinese in Pinoy: Centuries of Influence, Interaction, and Intimacy

Much of who we are now as Tsinoys trace back to the best of two worlds. We are as Filipino as we are Chinese. And a deeper understanding of how these two cultures merge together to create a distinct sub-culture is essential to our growth as individuals-- proud of our heritage, secure in the understanding of who we are.

In a seminar entitled "Chinese in Pinoy: Centuries of Influence, Interaction, and Intimacy," Dr. Richard T. Chiu re-acquainted FBAS CKSCians with their ancestry. The seminar was held at the AVR, CKS College Campus last August 15, 2013, 10AM to 12NN.

A Filipino-Chinese professor from the University of Massacusetts and an expert in Filipino-Chinese culture, Dr. Chu discussed how the Chinese had, over the years, influenced Filipinos in terms of language, customs, and practices. He showed how the relationships between the Chinese and the Filipinos were forged throughout the course of Philipine History-- giving rise to prominent figures with Chinese ancestry, including Dr. Jose Rizal, Emilio Aguinaldo, and Corazon Aquino.

As Filipino-Chinese, CKSCians were reminded to always be proud of who they are. And part of this is learning the Chinese language-- understanding it, speaking it, and loving it.
