Last August 7, 2013, the Junior Marketing Association, in cooperation with the Young Entrepreneurs’ Organization, had a seminar entitled “Why Good People Fail.” The speaker was Mr. Lloyd Luna, the youngest motivational speaker in Asia. A best-selling author, corporate trainer, television talk show host, and business evangelist, Mr. Luna has been inspiring thousands of students, employees, and entrepreneurs from various countries such as Thailand, Korea, Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Dubai among others. He is the author of various books, including The Obvious Reasons for Success, Alphabet of Achievement, Why good People Fail, The Great divide, and The Internet Marketing Handbook.

180 attendees assembled at the 7th floor, CKS College building, to learn, be inspired, and be motivated.  In his opening remarks, Mr. Ryan Lao, adviser of the Young Entrepreneurs’ Organization, reminded the audience that failure is a part of life and that one should learn how to deal with failure the right way.

Ever the dynamic speaker, Mr. Luna held the crowd captive with his witty remarks, relevant jokes, thought-provoking points, and practical advice. He stated that there are four types of people: Good but Broke, Bad but Successful, Bad but Broke, and Good and Successful. Good people usually fail because they are careless. Life isn’t about what you have or what you don’t have. It’s about what you do with what you have.

With the quote, “When you have nothing to lose, you have everything to gain,”  he further reiterated that life is a continuous exchange of value. Success means freedom from things you hate doing. It is important for you to find what you love and love what you found. He reminded the audience to start with a “Legitimate Ambition” – the dream that serves many. Other key insights he shared are: (1) There are many things that DON’T NEED YOUR ATTENTION;  (2) Refuse to believe in people who tell you, you can’t; (3) Be with people whom trust you; and (4) People can say things about you but never forget who you really are.

Mr. Luna ended the seminar by saying, ”You have a life to live. Academics are not everything. Money isn’t everything, Dream isn’t everything. Failure isn’t everything. And Success isn’t everything.” He stressed that we have to bear this in mind: “We have a life to live, people to love, and a limited time to spend. Moreover, we have two choices in life: Stay Alive to Survive or Live a Life to Succeed.”
